Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected bird sanctuary and lake formed by damming the Owabi River in 1928. Covering 13 km², it includes forest, aquatic vegetation, and a plantation of exotic trees. It hosts over 160 bird species, monkeys, bushpig, bushbuck, and antelope. The sanctuary supplies about one-fifth of Kumasi’s water and is Ghana’s only inland Ramsar site. It offers recreational activities like picnicking, bird watching, boating, and educational tours.
