Mount Afadja, often called Afadjato, is known as Ghana’s highest mountain and one of the country’s top natural attractions. Standing at about 885 meters (2,904 feet), it offers visitors a scenic hiking experience surrounded by lush forests, small farms, and flowing streams. The climb, which takes roughly two to three hours depending on fitness level, rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Volta highlands and neighboring Togo. At the foot of the mountain lies Liati Wote, the main starting point for hikes. Visitors register at the local tourism office, where guided tours are available for a small fee. It’s recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, water, and light clothing due to the warm, humid weather. Early morning climbs are best for cooler conditions and clearer views from the summit. Beyond the hike, travellers can explore nearby attractions such as Tagbo Falls, the ancestral caves, butterfly sanctuaries, and cultural experiences like drumming and local craft demonstrations. Mount Afadja continues to attract both adventure seekers and eco-tourists, offering a mix of natural beauty, local culture, and Ghanaian hospitality in one unforgettable experience.
