Fort San Sebastian is the country's third oldest fortification, built by the Portuguese between 1520 and 1526. Originally constructed as a trading post and a deterrent to English interference, it played a significant role in the gold and transatlantic slave trade. The fort was later captured and renovated by the Dutch, then ceded to the British in 1872. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses a post office, magistrate’s court, and museum, serving as a historic reminder of colonial and trading history.
